Noah offers the ability to manually number patients instead of automatic numbering. This can be useful if you have other patient management systems and want your patients to have the same ID between all of your systems.

Please note that you will need to manually enter a patient ID every time you add a patient with manual patient numbering enabled.

You can switch to manual numbering by heading to the Noah Portal:

Once you are in the Noah Portal, navigate to Settings → Patient Numbering.

In the Patient Numbering page, select manual patient numbering and click submit to save the change.

1. How do we see the patient number in the patient list?

To see the patient number in the patient, enable it in the dropdown for the patient list:

2. If we switch to manual number is there a maximum or minimum length for the patient ID?

There is no minimum length and a maximum length of 20 characters for the Patient number.

3. If we switch to manual numbering and we decide this was a mistake and switch back to automatic numbering, will we break things?

If you switch back to automatic numbering from manual numbering, Noah will automatically re-number all the patients in the database including patients with manually entered Patient numbers and you will lose all of the manually entered patient numbers.

4. Since the auto-numbered Patient numbers all seem to start with zeros, would having a manually entered ID that’s the same as an existing one but without the zeros cause a duplication warning? For example, if a current Patient number is “0023654” and we enter a new patient with manually entered number of “23654”, can those co-exist?

They can co-exist, as they are seen as different Patient numbers.

5. If we use manual numbering, can the Patient number contact [contain] all characters, or just numbers?

The Patient number can use all characters.
